Who is eligible for a booster?
Children ages 12–17 should get a Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine booster shot.
Adults age 18+ should get a booster shot of any of the COVID-19 vaccines authorized in the United States.
NOTE: CDC is recommending that moderately or severely immunocompromised children 5 years and older receive an additional PRIMARY dose of vaccine 28 days after their second shot.
- Currently, only the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine is authorized and recommended for children aged 5-17 years.
- Immunocompromised adults 18 years and older who receive a Pfizer primary series should get a third Pfizer primary shot; those who receive a Moderna primary series should get a third Moderna primary shot.
- No additional primary shot is recommended for Johnson & Johnson recipients at this time.
When can my child receive a booster?
Pfizer-BioNTech OR Moderna: 5 months after completing primary series
Johnson & Johnson: 2 months after first dose
